Margaret's story

I grew up on my family’s 5th generation farm in Southeast Wisconsin. It is one of those beautiful farms you see on postcards: big red barns, sprawling oaks over tall grass prairies, corn and soybean fields as far as the eye can see, soil, at times, that is 8 feet deep. I joke with folks that my first career was as a farm kid. My parents taught me the value of carrying for the land and for the people that live on it. Those values just sort of stuck with me when I went off to college.

I was fortunate to get a good scholarship to a good school and pursued journalism and environmental science. During college, I had the opportunity to go to Alaska for the first time. I fell in love at first sight and I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I was lucky enough to land a job at a local land trust in Palmer, AK and have the chance to work with local farmers to protect their farms. I met my husband, got married, started a family and 10 years later live and work in the beautiful mountain town of Palmer, AK. I found my adoptive home and I'm so happy to have started a business that can help support the community I love.
