Here are members of the 'Petty Traders Association' group. As their name suggests, they are small-scale businesspeople in the city of Makeni in northern Sierra Leone. They have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to apply for a loan of SLL 1,600,000 (or SLL 800,000 each) to enable them to boost their businesses.
Jariatu K. is the leader of this group of two. The 37-year-old was born in one of the several villages that make up Sanda, in northern Sierra Leone. She is married with 5 children. Two of her children are in primary school and 3 are in secondary school. Jariatu makes and sells soap and has been in this business for 5 years now. With this loan, she will expand her business by buying working materials like oil, caustic soda, powder and so on.
