Rajani's Group's story

Rajani is a very active lady standing to the right in the photograph. She lives with her husband in a village of Koraput district of Odisha, India. She has one daughter studying in grade two. Now she is engaged in cultivating betel leaves.

To make a living for the family, Rajani's husband has been farming paddy (rice) and other vegetables on their own plot of land. He has been doing this for many years. Rajani also helps her husband in the agricultural work after managing her betel leaf cultivation. They sell the harvested products from their agribusiness to the local markets. This agribusiness supplies them with the necessary finances to provide themselves with clothing, food, medicine, etc.

Rajani and her group member have applied for a loan amount of 30,000 INR from Kiva's partner People's Forum. Rajani will use her portion of the loan amount to purchase hybrid seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural inputs that will help her to have smooth cultivation of the crop.

She has a dream of providing her only daughter with better educational facilities by investing her savings so that someday she can see her daughter become a doctor.
