Los Lobos Group's story

The "Los Lobos" group is from a far away but picturesque community in the State of Mexico, where, in order to get there you need personal transport or several minutes' walk since there is no public transport route. However, it's a very special place surrounded by a lot of vegetation and a large amount of trees whose fruits can be enjoyed by visitors. Another important feature of the area are the Mazahua cultural roots that still survive thanks to the townspeople who inherited them from their ancestors.

Catalina is a woman known for her hard working attitude and her humble and responsible character, in addition to her joy. She has a lovely family: her partner at her side since she was 17 years old, Fernando, and her 3 children who currently continue studying in different school grades.

For the last 11 years she has made a living raising sheep, which is a very common occupation in the community where she is from. She buys the animals when they are very young so that she is 100% sure of their development. She takes care of them for approximately 6-8 months until they grow to the adequate size and weight to obtain good earnings. Likewise, she has a lot of experience since she has raised various animals over the years.

Currently she has 12 specimens and hopes to augment the number thanks to their easy reproduction. She also hopes to add to her corral to segregate according to size of the animals. With the new opportunity of the loan she could buy more sheep as well as food, vitamins and medication. On the other side, the group is also made up of Doña Juana and Don José, in-laws of Catalina, who also make their living raising ovine livestock.

*Catalina is who you see in the black sweater, the photograph was taken in the corral where she cares for the animals.
