Phennapha's story

Phennapha is 37 years old and one of the few women from her village to have earned a university degree. She landed a government job at the child care center in her village and says, “I hope I can encourage these cute little children to pursue education as far as their abilities can take them.”

There are many advantages to being a government employee in her community: free healthcare, a secure retirement plan and a line of credit at banks are among the advantages. Those advantages, however, do not include high wages.

Phennapha has been able to supplement her wages a lot by weaving hammocks. The security from her weaving work has made it possible to no longer worry about having have enough money to buy food, clothing or other necessities.

Phennapha looks forward to growing her weaving business this coming year. This loan will allow her to invest in raw materials and increase her income.
