A loan of $1,775 helps to get her own hammock production going and invest in raw materials for the coming year.
Ratchanee grew up in a rural village in the mountains of Phrae Province, Thailand. She finished high school and went on to receive a university degree, which allowed her to pursue work in Bangkok. Moving far from home to a part of Thailand where the culture is very different wasn’t easy, but what made it even harder was that she lost her job when the Covid pandemic upset the economy in Thailand.
Ratchanee moved back home, but continued to struggle to make ends meet as employment is scarce. She was introduced to weaving hammocks and trained with some of the artisan weavers in her village, and soon became very skilled at it! She is now earning more than she made working in the city and is no longer away from her family. Ratchanee says, “Hammock weaving came my way right in the nick of time!”
With this loan Ratchanee will be able to further secure her income and earning potential, invest in raw materials, and grow her weaving business!
