Thanh An 56 Group's story
The Thai ethnic woman has a bright smile and stands the first from the far right in the picture is 40-year-old Thanh. She is mother of four children, and now her family lives in Dien Bien province which is one of the poverty areas of Vietnam. In this place, most people’s income is from agricultural production.
Despite hard working in many activities such as vegetable trade, cultivation and construction labour, Thanh’s family still has been recognized as a near-poor household by the government. In order to earn extra income for the family, Thanh has an idea to invest in raising goats. But the main hardship is the lack of capital.
Luckily, she has a chance to borrow a loan from the Anh Chi Em program. She plans to use loan to buy goats to raise and sell later. The profit from this investment will be used to pay school fees for her children and grandchild; the remaining money will be used to repair her house. Thanh said that she dreams her children and grandchild will get the best education, go to university and escape the vicious circle of poverty
