but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy a tabletop sewing machine.

Amarilis's story

Amarilis is a seamstress and lives in a humble area of Barranquilla, in the Atlantico department of Colombia. It is in Amaralis' home that she has built up a good customer base, which she has attracted with her talents.

Amarilis wanted to work in this profession from a young age. She learned the trade from her mother and made her first items for her girl friends. Gradually, Amarilis became known for her work and, in 2014, she opened her workshop formally in her home. Amarilis produces all sorts of clothing items for men and women, including shirts, trousers, skirts, school uniforms and more. She works in every stage of the dressmaking process: design, patterns, preparation, putting together the item, and putting the finishing touches to a product.

Amaralis would like to reduce production time and earn a higher profit margin. She is therefore applying for a Kiva loan, her first from Fundacion Mario Santo Domingo, that she will use to buy a tabletop sewing machine. This loan will allow Amaralis to improve the final product.

Amarilis' future goal is to increase production and offer her son a higher quality of life.
