Tiessiri Group's story

The five members of the TIESSIRI groups are all married, and average 33 years of age and 6 children. They live in traditional conjugal families, with their children, brothers, sisters, and husband, in the SIRAKORODIE village, subprefecture of Fana, in the DIOÏLA prefecture (KOULIKORO region, Republic of Mali). They got acquainted through bonds of marriage and neighborhood. Their business consists in selling cereals. In order to bolster their stock and to better satisfy the needs of their clientele, they decided to join Kiva's partner, the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso, from which they are seeking their first solidarity loan (group loan).

With this loan, they intend to buy 800 kg of corn, 200 kg of sorghum, and 700 kg of bean. All these cereals will be purchased from providers in SIRAKORODIE and in the surrounding villages. The products will be directly retailed at the Fana market for cash, to a clientele comprising both men and women. During this loan cycle, they foresee turning an average profit of XOF 25'000 (ca US$ 50) each, to be used to pay for their children's education.
