Meera Group's story

Meera Group formed in the year 2015 at Titlagarh village, of Bolangir district, Odisha, India. These are 11 active, self-dependent women with an objective for developing their existing businesses, as well as their livelihood.

All the members of the concerned group have their own professions and businesses. Saraswati is one of them who has taken a great role for her development and the group members' source of revenue improvement. She is standing and is the second person from the left-hand side with a raised hand in the photo. She is about 39 years old and is living with her small family, consisting of her husband and two children.

Her family has been engaged with a furniture making and selling business at Titlagarh village for the last eight years. The complete family together promotes their business. Through the concerned business, she earns a monthly income of 8,800 INR. Her opinion is that income is not sufficient to maintain her family, and hence, there is almost zero surplus at the end of the month.

She plans to improve her business in the course of loan, with which she will purchase wood, some mechanical equipment and some ready-made furniture like sofa sets. Saraswati hopes to get more and more profit from her business expansion and save money for the purchase of a house and to provide better education to her children.

The other 10 members of her group are also smart at their professions and are also actively engaged with different businesses like dairy, a tea and tiffin stall, a grocery shop, a betel shop, fancy cosmetics shop, etc. With this loan, they hope to heighten their livelihoods.
