A loan helped to build a clean and sanitized toilet at her home.

Gita's Group's story

The lady standing in the middle in the photograph is Gita. She is a widow and a farmer by profession. She has two daughters and three sons in her care. She has to work very hard in order to feed her children. A humble resident of a village in Panpose, Odisha, India, Gita does not have access to a toilet at her home.

Unavailability of a toilet at her home compels her to walk a long distance to isolated fields in the early morning and late at night to relieve herself. Gita feels the risk of being infected by diseases due to this unsanitary practice and she can sense the risk of crimes and molestation.

So in order to restore her privacy and increase her safety and hygiene, Gita along with her group members, is requesting a loan amount of 45,000 INR from Kiva's partner Peoples Forum. She will use her portion of the loan amount to build a clean and sanitized toilet at her home. Access to a toilet will enhance Gita's hygiene and she will be able to lead a disease-free, healthy life.
