Great Heights Group's story

At the entrance of her gate a visitor is greeted by the aroma such that one is forgiven for suggesting that Matilda of Great Heights does not need an air freshener, as the air circulating around her house is always sweetened by her baking.

Matilda is a married mother of 2 children, who resides in Dzivaresekwa Extension in Harare the capital of Zimbabwe. She and her 3 group members named themselves Great Heights, because they have envisioned elevating themselves in business to bigger and better levels after being given a loan. There are currently on their 2nd loan and the positive changes in their businesses indicate that one day they will reach their target.

Clad in her white baking overalls and her head covered for hygiene purposes Matilda begins her typical day. Her main ingredients are flour, margarine or cooking oil, eggs, flavoring and sometimes fruits depending on the product being baked that particular day. In the process Matilda adds different forms of icing and other small decorating items like “hundreds and thousands”.
Matilda business has grown to the extent that she receives at least 2 orders of cakes from her clients daily. She usually supplies cake to clients in her neighborhood of Dzivaresekwa Extension and also to various pre-schools surrounding the area. She has created good customer loyalty because her cakes are delicious and well appreciated.

Currently Matilda applied for a loan of $600 with this amount she intends to restock various ingredients and various additives in order to meet various tastes of her clients. She is also planning to expand from the state she is and open a small baking shop in the area.
