A loan helped to procure a branded trolley and an internet-enabled phone as well as the funds needed to make the actual transactions so that he can start running his own business in Malawi.

Boniface's story

Boniface is a young man who resides in a town called Nkhata Bay in Malawi. Nkhata Bay is the busiest resort on Lake Malawi and is thus a popular tourist destination. Bonface is requesting a loan to start running his own business in Nkhata Bay.

Boniface is 21 years old. He comes from a family of three and was recently orphaned. He is being supported by his older brother and would like to be self-sufficient by running his own business as a Zoona Agent. This means that Boniface will provide mobile money transfer services to people in his community and earn a profit from the transactions.

Boniface has always wanted to be an entrepreneur and the prospect of managing his own time, his own budgets and resources has always excited him. His biggest dream is to run his own business, but the lack of capital is a huge obstacle in making this dream a reality. He is, therefore, requesting his first Kiva loan to make this dream a reality.

Boniface believes that starting his own business will enable him to give back to his community by creating employment opportunities, thus helping others achieve peace of mind. He wants to be a viable, trustworthy mobile money provider in a country where banking is simply too expensive for most of the people.

Zoona has done market research and found that the location in which Boniface is looking to open his outlet would be ideal not only for employment opportunities for that community, but also to generate the traction he envisions for his business. This loan will be used to procure a branded trolley, an internet-enabled phone and provide the funds needed for Boniface to serve his customers.

Boniface thanks the Kiva lenders for believing in him.
