Chishala's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to acquire capital in order to grow his mobile money transfer business.

Chishala's story

Chishala is a 38-year-old father of one who operates his own mobile transfer business in Lusaka, Zambia. With the depreciation of the Zambian currency in recent times, Chishala’s business has been struggling financially. Inflated transport and rent costs are but two of the things affecting his business at the present time. He has a child in primary school and because of the state of the Zambian economy, tuition fees has doubled. He is struggling to keep his family afloat. Currently, Chishala uses the revenue generated by his Zoona outlets to generate capital in order to expand his business and be a source of employment in his community. He would like to, someday, see his child financially stable and he would like to continue to be a source of youth employment in his community. Being able to run his own business has allowed Chishala to support his family but he has seen his momentum falter because of the state of the Zambian economy. He is now looking to build on his capital base and progressively have his outlets become more lucrative. A huge challenge for Chishala is the constant float shortages he currently experiences, especially when assisting a client who needs to send a large sum of money. This results in him losing clients to other mobile money transfer competitors and also results in his clients losing faith in his services. It also results in him having to close his outlets early and send clients home because he is unable to assist them. These are not the values he wishes to embody. Therefore, Chishala is requesting his first Kiva loan in order to have the funds needed for him to grow his business and serve people who need access to efficient financial services. Chishala thanks the Kiva lenders for their support.
