Leatu's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy food and clothing, eliminating pressure to sell maize for low prices at harvest.

Leatu's story

Leatu is a Babban Gona maize farmer. Leatu is excited that Babban Gona offers a lasting solution to ending the cycle of poverty, renewing her dreams of gaining wealth someday. Traditionally, Leatu would have had to sell her maize at Harvest, a period when maize prices are at their lowest in the market, to meet her immediate cash needs such as food and clothing. As a member of Babban Gona Leatu can store her maize at harvest and sell it at a future date for up to 37% higher than the market price at harvest. Benefiting from Babban Gona’s marketing support, Leatu has the opportunity to generate earnings of up to $2,000 per hectare of land. Leatu is thankful that she no longer has to worry about having the money to provide healthcare for her family and children. She looks forward to using her additional earnings to provide employment to members of her community through her farm.
