Epifanio's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to repair his coffee-drying patio damaged by an earthquake.

Epifanio's story

Epifanio, 66, is part of Shmaakal Winte, a cooperative in Cacahoatal, Chiapas engaged in the production of organic coffee and the sustainable use of local biodiversity.

Shmaakal Winte has produced and sold organic coffee for more than five years. Last year, an earthquake destroyed the coffee-drying patios of 9 of the 19 members of the cooperative. The drying process of the coffee affects the final quality and price obtained; thus, unless the patios are rebuilt, Shmaakal Winte will receive a lower price for their coffee.

CONABIO (National Commission for Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity), an institution that promotes the conservation and management of biodiversity based on actions taken by local populations, has helped Shmaakal Winte implement sustainable production of coffee and honey as a part of the Commission's effort to promote the sustainable use of biodiversity in the Soconusco Region in Chiapas.

Epifanio was one of the farmers affected by the earthquake. With this loan, Epifanio will obtain the recources to reconstruct his drying patio in time for the harvest season that begins in November.
