San Geronimo Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy ingredients for her delicious pizzas including flour, sausages, pepperoni, as well as supplies for the restaurant.

San Geronimo Group's story

Magdalena is a 48-year-old woman with the goal of moving successfully ahead in her life. She also wants to help out her parents with their household expenses. She belongs to the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “San Gerónimo” along with seven other ladies. The Trust Bank is located in Chiantla in northwestern Guatemala.

Three years ago, Magdalena opened a small restaurant where she sold pizza. The business was a success in the community. Today, this hardworking entrepreneur has a business partner. Nevertheless, she needs financial capital and so she joined Friendship Bridge to ask for a loan. She would like to buy ingredients for her delicious pizzas including flour, sausages, pepperoni, as well as supplies for the restaurant. Her goal is to continue to expand her business so that it is self-sustaining.

Magdalena and her friends in the Trust Bank learn a lot from their monthly educational trainings that take place after they transact business on their loans. A facilitator from Friendship Bridge shares information with them about the world within them and around them. One month, they may learn about health, hygiene and the use of medicinal plants. Another month, the topic might be women’s health, women’s bodies and proper hygiene. Since the women have had little or no education, they are eager to learn.

Gratitude to Kiva lenders for learning about Magdalena and the seven members of the Trust Bank. Armed with their new tools, they are ready to step into a brighter future, benefitting themselves, their families and their community of Chiantla! Thank you!
