A loan helped Working capital - buying clothing for resale.

Maria's story

Maria E. C. is 52 years of age, and she has been a widow for three years. She has 7 children, none of which live with her. Before he died, her husband worked in a cement factory, and, with the help of some day laborers, he farmed in his spare time. After her husband died, Maria began a small business of selling clothing. With much hard work and enthusiasm she travels to nearby villages every Friday, Saturday and Sunday to sell her wares. The rest of the week she stays home to attend to the garden her late husband had prepared. She has been successful in selling clothing in the nearby villages. This experience has allowed her to grow her business, and to gain very valuable business experience. Every two weeks Maria travels to Lima to buy her clothing for resale. She takes advantage of this trip to visit with her children who live there. They also give her advice about what clothing to buy depending on current tastes. This will be the eighth loan Maria is requesting from MFP. She has shown responsibility and promptness in repayment of the previous loans, and she is an active member of the organization. The funds requested will be used as working capital, to allow her to buy merchandise for resale in the countryside.
