Vazgen's story

This young man’s name is Vazgen and he is 26 years old. He is a student of Gavar State University in the faculty of geography. He lives in his native city Gavar, of the Gegharkunik region, with his mother and retired grandmother. He also has a sister who is married and she lives with her family. Vazgen’s father is in the Russian Federation and he works there to support his family’s needs. So Vazgen, being the only man in the family now, feels great responsibility of his family's care.

Vazgen, besides being a student, is also a farmer. In his farm he has cows, calves and heifers. Vazgen says that he likes his farming so much that while he is at the University and on the bus on the way back home, he thinks of his farm work and plans what he will do first when he reaches his farm. Vazgen sells his farm’s milk, meat, macun (national dairy-product) and cheese, with the help of his beloved grandmother, to their neighbors and regular customers.

Vazgen asks for a loan of 500,000 Armenian Drams from the Kiva lenders as he made a decision to start swine breeding on the farm. He will buy several pigs and develop his new occupation with great hope of more income for his lovely family.
