Juana Manuela's story

The Crédito San Mateo group gets together twice a month in the beautiful seaside resort of San Mateo in the city of Manta known for its beautiful beaches that are visited throughout the year by domestic and foreign tourists. Most of the people in this place engage in fishing or work to do with fishing.

Juana lives here. She is 44 years old. She is married with three children. One of them still lives at home and studies at university. Her husband works in fishing.

Juana is a woman that does what she can to help her husband. She is getting a loan to help her husband to use in his work. He has a boat and works with two fishermen and pays them wages for their work. They go offshore for 15 to 20 days, working together with a fishing boat to which they deliver what they have caught every afternoon. After the passing of the days they return to their home for several days and then return to their fishing work. He has been doing this work for more than 30 years with which he earns his living and gives work to his working companions so they can earn the daily bread for their homes.

This loan is to buy nets, ropes, thread, fish hooks, fuel, food, and water to go fishing. She has been in the communal bank for more than 9 years and likes it because it helps her husband in his work.

Her dream is that her daughter becomes a professional.
