Albia Maria's story

Albia lives in Santo Domingo, a city characterized for its commercial activity and productivity. She lives in her own house with her mother. She has a daughter who is an adult and is married. Albia is a hard working woman and has shown her family how to get ahead by herself, make her dreams come true, and keep overcoming her challenges.
In the past she sold clothes and other catalog products. She visited clients house to house but she mentions that it was very tiring to be on the street. She later studied to start her own beauty salon and finished her studies. She has always liked that line of work and now she's had this business for a few years. She started painting nails and with those earnings she bought materials to start her business.
She currently has a small beauty salon which is unique in the whole area. Things are going well because she has clients from her neighborhood.
With the loan from Kiva and Fundación Alternativa she will be able to buy more materials for her business. She will buy furniture, hair cutting machines, hair dyes, creams, and will better prepare her working space of which she has ideal pictures of. With this she will be able to better serve her clients since she will have the products she needs on a daily basis. With the earnings she will continue saving and preparing her store which has helped her get ahead.
Thanks to this income she has been able to improve the home which she shares with her mother. She's grateful to the institution and the Kiva project for making the dreams of micro entrepreneurs possible.
