Maria Juana's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy corn and firewood to make tortillas.

Maria Juana's story

María, 56, had 11 siblings. Their parents weren't able to send all of them to school, so none of them went. She's in a relationship and has two children who already have their own families. She takes care of two grandchildren who attend school.

María has been making tortillas since 1982, so she knows the business well. She also makes corn tamales and previously she also made pupusas [stuffed tortillas]. The advantage she has is that the business is in her home. Her companion helps her with everything she does.

María needs the loan to buy corn and firewood to make the tortillas, because owing to the drought there will not be a corn harvest and it will be more expensive.

In the future María wants to sell her tortillas not only in her community but also in other places.
