Outre Group's story
In Musina, a small South African town near the border post to Zimbabwe, a woman named Mavis navigates through a series of shops looking for bargains. She spends the whole morning buying hardware products such as glue, paints, nails and other material. After this, Mavis goes on to buy a few cosmetics to add on to the range of the products that she sells. Late afternoon, when she is done with purchasing her list of goods, she boards a bus headed back for Harare and will arrive the next morning. The morning she arrives, Mavis will display her products on the stall, getting ready for the busy day ahead. When daylight is no more, an exhausted Mavis goes home and cooks for her husband and two children. Every month, 27 year old Mavis leaves the comfort of her home and travels to South Africa to make this trip. Her husband is self-employed, he sells car tyres and rims. Income from his business is not sufficient to cover most of their family’s needs, coupled with education fees for their two children. Mavis helps her husband by raising income through selling hardware products and other cosmetics. Mavis is part of a group named Outre and they are all working towards improving their standards of living. They are hoping that a loan from Kiva will help them buy more stock of goods in order to generate more income.
