Bhagabati Group's story

In the year 2015, eleven self-dependent women of Malisira village of Bolangir district, Odisha, India formed a group named Bhagabati. All the group members are from poor families. The main objective is to expand their existing businesses and develop their social livelihoods by taking a loan from Mahashakti Foundation.

Rina is the most active lady of the concerned village and has taken the leadership to form a self help group. The lady is aged about 30 years and is standing as the second person from righthand side with a raised hand in the photo. She is a cheerful lady with high ambition. Her family consists of her husband and three children.

For the last 10 years, Rina has engaged in the grocery business with the help and support of her husband. It shows that Rina is very active and wants the overall improvement of her family. The monthly income of her family is about INR 6,800.

But the present income is not sufficient to manage the business expenses as well as the household expenses for her family. So she decided to expand her business through Loan. She will purchase all grocery items like rice, wheat, oil, sugar, tea, soap, washing powder, deodorant etc. Rina hopes that this will definitely generate a handsome extra income. She has a dream to save enough for the better education of her children and construction of a pucca house.

The other ten members of the group are also engaged with different small businesses like a grocery shop, animal trading, vegetable vending, seasonal items, and stone cutting.
