Carmen's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase supplies and fertilizers that she will use to maintain her coffee crop.

Carmen's story

Carmen is a small producer in the northern part of Nicaragua. She primarily works as a coffee grower, which she has used to get ahead with her children. The average production of coffee that she has obtained in the last three years is 140 bushels of raw coffee, which is below the level required for Fair trade certification.

The biggest challenge that she has confronted while producing coffee is the presence of pests and diseases which she is sure she can keep under control with an adequate fertilization plan. Because of this, she is seeking a loan to purchase supplies and fertilizers that will allow her to adequately maintain her plantations. Her goal is to continue improving her farm under an integrated management plan that will allow her to continue investing gradually in the development and diversification of her farm. She is sure to accomplish her goal by making good decisions and through her dedication to the work needed to be able to continue supporting her family.
