Mujeres Emprendedoras Group's story

Hipsy is a 35-year-old woman. She is a good mother and is enterprising, dynamic, active, reliable, responsible, and very hardworking. She lives with her partner and has four children, ages 1, 6, 10, and 14. Her business is selling cakes. She runs her business in the Cotoca area, located about 20 kilometers to the east of the city. It is known for the diversity of its traditional food and for the patron saint festival where believers go on foot. It has a subtropical climate with a temperature that falls between 21 and 35 degrees centigrade. Hipsy is olive-skinned with big, hazel eyes. She is short in stature with a robust physical complexion. Her native tongue is Guaraní, which she speaks in her home, but she speaks Spanish in the wider culture and in her business. She shares her life with her partner, who works in the same business. They live in their own room, built out of bricks and cement with a corrugated roof and a brick floor. They have electricity, running water, and sewage service. Out of a need to help with the school expenses of her children, she has a desire to improve herself. She created a bank of people to ask for a loan and improve their businesses. They have businesses such as: ceramic art, making sao hats, food sales, second-hand clothing sales, ice cream sales, upholstery services, and house painting. Her own business is making and selling "queques" as a mobile vendor. A “queque" is a cake made from flour, eggs, milk, and sugar, which can be eaten at any hour of the day, either by itself or with tea or coffee. She began her business in her home, using a minimal investment to sell “alfajores" [another type of cake] and chocolate and vanilla queques, made with ingredients that are easy to find in the market. When she had recovered her capital, she invested it in offering desserts to her customers. “My specialties are chocolate and vanilla queques, which are in high demand mid-morning and mid-afternoon,” she says. The advantage of her business is that her queques are in demand and can be eaten at any time of day. The disadvantage is her lack of capital to buy ingredients such as flour, eggs, and others. Her dream is to open a fixed-location sales space. She wants to buy in bulk various types of flour, sugar, eggs, and necessary ingredients for her business. This is her first loan sequence with the institution in her year of carrying out this business. It is because of all this that Hipsy is asking for a loan to buy ingredients for baking a variety of queques and also to open a fixed-location sales space.
