Chanthol's Group's story

Chanthol is a 52-year-old mother of one child. She has been a rice farmer for more than five years. She lives in Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. To earn additional income to support her family, she goes to harvest on her co-villager’s farm for a fee. Rice drought is the main challenge for her in her farming business because she grows rice crops dependent on the rain. Chanthol has been with VisionFund, Kiva’s partner, for one cycle already and has paid back the loan in full. The past loan helped her to have a better living standard. Due to not having enough funds to do the farming for this season, she is now leading a group to take a new Kiva loan. She will use her loan portion to buy seeds and fertilizer to increase crop productivity. She hopes to earn more income so that she can buy a motorbike to drive her from home to her rice fields, which will enable her to save the cost of transportation.
