Lakshmi's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to bear the education expenses for her daughter’s graduation degree, Bachelor of Arts.

Lakshmi's story

Thirty-eight-year-old Lakshmi is living in Parengerpar village in Falakata, Alilpurduar district of West Bengal with her family of four. Amongst her two children (a daughter and a son), her elder daughter has recently been admitted into Falakata College for her three-year Bachelor of Arts degree education and her son reads in school. Lakshmi is determined to impart the best education to her children.

Lakshmi’s husband is a fruit vendor in the local market for the four-member family’s livelihood, which is barely enough to cover the household expenses along with educational expenses. Her elder daughter, 17-year-old Supriya, is now in her first year of a Bachelor of Arts degree program. Being a good and studious student, she wants to join the coaching centers to do better in her final exams so that she can do a B. Ed. (Bachelor of Education) later. All the expenses of Supriya’s course fees and the cost of books come up to such a high amount that it is impossible for Lakshmi to afford with her average financial background. So Lakshmi has taken out a loan from BJS, a Kiva partner.

She wants to use the loan to pay her daughter’s college fees and private tuition fees and purchase all necessary educational materials so that Supriya can go ahead with her studies without any interruption. Lakshmi will also buy a bicycle for her daughter to save the time and cost of her conveyance.

Lakshmi and Supriya (in the picture) are grateful to BJS and Kiva.
