Sonia Monica's story

Sonia is a 27-year-old single woman, she has 2 boys ages 4 and 9 and two girls ages 1 and 7, and her business is knitting and selling baby clothing. She is a good mother, determined, reliable, dedicated, optimistic, responsible and very hard-working. Her business is located in the 16 de julio zone where the largest commercial fair of the country is held on Thursdays and Sundays from the very early hours of the morning. In this fair, one can find whatever type of things that one needs. It has a cold and dry climate with a temperature that varies during the day between 0-12 degrees centigrade. Sonia has dark skin, dark eyes, long black hair she wears braided, is short, has a slender physique, she dresses traditionally (hat, shawl and pollera [traditional Andean skirt]), her native language is Aymará which she speaks with her family and she speaks Spanish due to the general culture and for the business she does. She shares her life with her children. The older two go to school and the younger two aren't of school age yet. They live in a room owned by the family, built of adobe with a roof of metal sheeting and cement floor, which has running water, electricity, domestic gas, and sewer services. Her business is knitting and selling baby clothing. She purchases different types of wool and makes pants, sweaters, hats, and all sorts of clothing for babies. Once she has finished with a quantity of clothing, she goes to the fair and sells as a street vendor. "I make clothing for babies and I sell as a street vendor in strategic locations. Demand increases and I need a large quantity of wool..." She says. The advantage of her business is that she designs and makes innovative models, the disadvantage is the competition with better prices. Her dream is to establish a business. She wants to purchase different types of wool in bulk to have constant working material and to sell in bulk. This is her first loan cycle with the institution in the 15 years that she has done this work. For these reasons Sonia asks for a loan to purchase wool in bulk to make and sell baby clothing in greater quantity.
