A loan helped to procure raw materials for candle making.

Mila's story

One lighted candle can illuminate a room. A person who is a blessing to others is like a candle that brings light and warmth to the house. Mila is a blessing to others because she has the capacity to give employment to five workers in her candle making shop located in Prosperidad, Agusan Del Sur, the capital town of the province. She’s been in this candle making business for twenty three years now. She continuously appreciates the importance of candles, such as emergency lighting in case of electric interruption, as decorative items, or fragrances. Because of these uses, candles are saleable throughout the year. Mila would like to enhance her business further so as to secure the salaries of her workers, to ensure that her children will finish their college degree, and to acquire a 4x4 vehicle in the near future. As a step towards realizing these dreams, she would like to borrow 50,000 PHP in additional capital to procure raw materials for candle making. It will surely increase her production, sales, and profit. Mila is married to Elmer, a businessman who is always supportive of her and her business. She meets with her co-fellowship* members every week to share stories of her life and business and to draw strength and inspiration from the fellowship and the Word of God. *All CCT community partners/clients are organized into fellowship groups that meet on a weekly basis. A fellowship group is composed of 15 to 30 community partners. The fellowship groups gather each week to study the Word of God, build social capital, and pay microfinance loans.
