A loan helped to purchase fertilizer to maintain coffee.

Xexac 5.2 Group's story

Maria (the first on the right-hand side with the purple blouse) is a 30-year-old single woman who lives with her nine year old son in a community called Xexac. To gain their income and raise her family, Maria makes a living with the cultivation and sale of coffee. She's been doing this activity for eight years. Fortunately, Maria lives in a very fertile area, which is why she has achieved good coffee harvests. Maria, seeing the need, has organized a group of women so that together they may acquire a loan that will be invested in the purchase of fertilizer to give maintenance to her coffer crop. Maria's great dream is to have the opportunity to buy 10 cuerdas (about 2.8 acres) of land to increase her crop of coffee.
