Mujeres Prudentes Group's story

Angélica, 26 years old and single, is a model of the Guatemalan woman who, with limited education, has not been impeded in her drive to excel in her family and community. She has availed herself of every opportunity to succeed..She lives with her aging parents who try to help but are limited in being able to provide for their expenses. They all are fortunate to live in a community filled with natural beauty. Five years ago, Angélica started her business selling sandals for women and girls in her town’s local market place. In order to achieve a higher income, she increased her inventory and sold the shoes by the dozen, as well as selling a variety of other shoe types. Now, she is requesting a loan from Friendship Bridge and Kiva investors so that she can increase her shoe inventory with new designs. She needs a larger inventory to sell at the upcoming village fair. Angélica is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank Mujeres Prudentes Group who are very grateful to both Friendship Bridge and the Kiva investors for having confidence in them to grow their businesses through increased inventories. They are especially grateful for the fact that with the financial support they do not have to scrounge for income to support their families. The women like the monthly training they receive in important topics like business management, customer service, money investment, as well as health improvement – their own and their children’s. Learning how to invest wisely has helped them stay in the market place. The women are very happy to be a part of Friendship Bridge and want to continue to grow their businesses and their knowledge.
