Casa De Jesus Group's story

The small town of Cantel in the Guatemalan state of Quetzaltenango is the home of the Friendship Bridge “Casa de Jesús” which was formed last year by nine entrepreneurial women. These ladies were motivated to join Friendship Bridge in order to access the “Microcredit Plus” program that combines small loans and non-formal educational trainings. Antonia is beginning her second loan cycle. Since she began with “Casa de Jesús” last year, she has seen the positive results of an injection of income into her local business of selling snacks, chicken and fries along with tortillas. Antonia is requesting a new loan in order to buy an industrial stove, soft drinks, juices, corn for tortillas, chicken and potatoes so that she can continue to expand and grow her businesses. Antonia and the ladies in the group are very aware of the value of education. It is a priority for them to enroll their children in school. As all of them have had little or no education, they look forward to their monthly meetings with a Friendship Bridge Facilitator shares useful information with them on a variety of subjects. They learn how to take care of themselves and their families with new knowledge about hygiene, nutrition, and the use of medicinal plants. They gain valuable business tools as they learn about business planning and management, budgeting, pricing, marketing, accounting and customer service. They empower themselves as they participate in games and role playing and learn to identify goals and dreams. On behalf of all the members of “Casa de Jesús”, Antonia thanks the Kiva investors for their support and the investment they make in the women of Guatemala that makes it possible for all of them to have better opportunities and futures. Thank you KIVA investors!!!
