A loan helped to buy fish.

María Orfilia's story

The credit group Maria Del Carmen meets every two weeks in the Montecristi Canton, place of the famous, shawl straw hats and a city with a temperate climate with many natural tourist attractions of the region. Maria, 73, lives in this place. Several years ago, her husband died and she was left a widow, but from this union she had six children who are all grown. One of them still lives with her. Maria is a hard-working woman, who after the death of her husband together with her son continued the work that they perform in order to forge ahead. She and her son make a living in the purchase and sales of fish by the pound. They travel to the beaches of Manta, the place where they buy at good prices in order to later go and sell throughout the city from their car. They work every day and they have been doing this for more than 14 years which allows them to get ahead with honest work. This loan is for buying fish for sale. She has been with the credit group since its inception and she likes it because the loans allow her to keep going. Her dream is to have a locale.
