A loan helped to buy a flatbed sewing machine and raw material like leather, synthetic fabric, lining, clasps and others.

Martha Lucia's story

Martha inspired by the idea of being an independent worker and having her own business studied leather-work in an Arts and Trade school. When she completed her studies and had enough ability to make wallets, briefcases, handbags and footwear she offered her leather products to family members, friends and people referred to her. They have been accepted and she wasn't expecting as much success. She gets more requests every day as her products are of excellent quality, new designs and accessibly priced.

She is currently applying for her first loan from Kiva through the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo which she will invest in buying a flatbed sewing machine and raw material like leather, synthetic fabric, lining, clasps and others. This loan is looking at improving the quality of her products so she can capture new markets and increase her exposure and improve her quality of living. Her goals are to be able to be with her mother and to receive a degree from the Academy where she studied.
