20-year-old Katherin is a young, single woman. She has a 2-year-old son. She sells sodas. She is a good mother, a good listener, and an enterprising, supportive, strong, responsible and hardworking woman. Her business is located in the “Virgen del Lujan” neighborhood, located in the center, with many commercial and public establishments. It has subtropical weather and a temperature that ranges between 21 and 35 degrees Celsius. Katherin has a dark complexion and brown eyes. She is short and has long black hair tied back. She is medium size and her mother tongue is Guaraní. She speaks it at home and speaks Spanish due to cultural and professional reasons. She is the second one standing from right to left, and is wearing pink stockings and a shirt with horizontal stripes. She shares her life with a son who is not of school age yet. They live in a humble room guarded by fragile mud walls, a roof covered with old tiles and brick floor. It is served with potable water, electricity and sewage. She dreams of offering her son a better future, so she started a communal bank with members that work selling fish, as locksmiths, making baby clothes, as bakers, selling fruits, selling noodles, repairing TV sets and selling chicken, in order to apply for a loan to improve their businesses. She works selling sodas. She starts very early in the morning to enjoy the fresh morning air and make her first sales. She works every day under an umbrella located outdoors. “I sell sodas at room temperature and also ice-cold. My customers give me some coins and then leave,” she says. The advantage she has is that under the hot weather, sales are continuous. The disadvantage is that she lacks the money to buy umbrellas and chairs to sit on. Her dream is to offer her customers a place where they can stay. She would like to improve her business by buying a couple of umbrellas to offer her customers protection from the sun, chairs and beverages. This is her first loan with the institution in three years of being an independent businesswoman.
