"When I was a child my mother made tortillas by hand as she had to prepare the meals for my father and siblings. I start what became my business without thinking' Marta explained who now has 20 years of experience. Ten years ago Marta came to live in Veracruz and immediately fixed up a small space under a plastic sheet where she offers her traditional tortillas daily.

Currently from Monday to Sunday she starts to mix her dough at 6 am and then starts to make her tortillas. She sells about 500 tortillas daily and a minimum of 25 kilos of dough. "There are days when I go to my stand early as clients order 30 to 50 tortillas and I have to fill each order".

With her profits she helps her husband Jorge with the education of her three children and the household expenses. in addition to this she also bought an electric mill, a refrigerator for her house and remodeled her sales space. Today it has laminated sheeting for walls a concrete counter, a table, a press, the oven and the principal ingredient, wood.

She will invest the loan buying corn and wood. this time her husband will plant corn in the patio behind their house to increase the profits of her business. The photograph was taken in the space where Martha makes the tortillas. She is wearing a red blouse.
