Djamadjigui Group's story

The members of the group Djamadjigui are all married women who average 26 years of age and two children. They live in traditional extended conjugal families with sisters, brothers, and spouses in the village of Sirimou (Kenekou sub-prefecture belonging to Koulikoro prefecture) in the Koulikoro region, Republic of Mali. Through ties of marriage, these women got to know one another, and they do commerce in condiments (onions, chili peppers, fresh tomatoes, salt, tomato paste, etc.)

Concerned with expanding their commerce and with having enough inventory, they joined the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso and are now on their sixth group loan. All the preceding loans have been correctly repaid. The group members plan to buy: 150 kg of salt, 300 kg of onions, 14 kg of tomato paste (2 kg cans), and a large quantity of various condiments. The goods are gotten at the Kenekou marketplace from wholesalers and are resold in and around the village of Sirimou.

With this loan, the women each intend to obtain a profit of 30,000 francs CFA that will be used to increase their working capital.
