Las Minas Group's story

A community in Oaxaca combines the natural beauty of it's landscapes with industrial progress. On one hand it is a very quiet region known for it's pure air and it's tree filled areas and on the other it is an area that has one of the biggest sugar mills of the region and also has a large electric plant. The "Las Minas" communal bank was formed here who commented "The loan that will be awarded us will be the gold mine to start the growth of our businesses".

The members are; Mirella who sells fruit and cosmetics, Alondra sells chicken, Guillermina sells pottery and gifts while María operates a grocery store.

Guillermina is a very hard-working woman who is known with love as Guille or Mina in the community. She is the mother of 5 children of which only one still lives with her and together they cover the household expenses. Her business for the past 14 years has been selling pottery. She began selling itinerantly so she had to pack her merchandise carefully so as not to break the flowerpots, vases and decorations.

In spite of the fact that many people did not think her business would be successful, Guille demonstrated that with effort and dedication you can achieve your goals. "I am proud of myself, as with the profits I managed to educate my children, grow my business, and continue as a sugar producer". she commented with a smile on her face.

Four years ago she adapted a place and now sells in a regular way from her house although she hasn't stopped going out in the streets to offer her figurines. In order to offer a greater variety of products Guille invest part of her profits and the loans buying more merchandise. this time she will buy flowerpots and handbags. In the future she plans to open a stationary shop since there isn't one close to her location and she wants to take advantage of the situation.

"Thank you for helping the growth of our businesses. If before they were active mines now they are super active as they yield more profits" are the words from the group. Guille is the person holding the pottery chicken in the photo so you can see the merchandise from her business.
