Boulaye's Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to get a fertiliser package for growing maize, and to benefit from agricultural training and techniques.

Boulaye's Group's story

Boulaye, wearing the white t-shirt on the photo and with a child in his arms, is a member of a group of 18 farmers registered at myAgro, all living and working in the village of Fani Kodialan in southeastern Bamako, Mali. Boulaye is 54 years old and the father of 8 children aged from 8 to 29, five of whom currently attend school. A family tradition for agriculture - the main source of income and food for the family, though it also allows the family to be self sufficient more generally - has led Boulaye to work in the sector for the last 35 years. He grows peanuts, maize, millet and kitchen vegetables on his plot, but as a farmer he has to cope with problems such as a lack of rain, of farming equipment and of quality fertilisers. Boulaye is into his third season with my Agro, having re-registered due to the prospect of being able to increase his yields with the services offered by myAgro. This year he is making payments to buy a myAgro fertiliser package for growing maize, in order to increase the yield on his 1 hectare piece of land. Boulaye has been growing peanuts for 4 years for its food value, explaining that it is both eaten by the family as is, and also used as a basic sauce in food. It also has commercial value, being a food she sells at market. Boulaye is planning to be able to extend the size of the plot he cultivates with his increased yield and higher income, as well as to diversify his plantings with orange and mango. Finally, he hopes be able to cover the childrens' schooling costs and to buy farm equipment. He said "after farming, I am obsessed with rearing livestock".
