Desi Cotton Growers Association Group's story

Ishwar lives in Shagoti village, Gadad District. After completing 12th grade, he started to do agriculture with his father. He grows groundnuts, onions and cotton. Earlier he used to cultivate hybrid cotton. When he realized how hazardous this hybrid cotton was to the environment and to the cattle, he stopped cultivating hybrid cotton and started cultivating indigenous varieties of cotton in 2011. After harvesting, he faced marketing problems and unfortunately he was forced to sell it to the local dealer who procures hybrid cotton. Later Ishwar formed a group in his village named “Desi Cotton Growers Association” with the farmers who were interested in cultivating indigenous varieties of cotton and the members of this group cultivated only indigenous varieties of cotton. As of now, farmers from nearby places are also members of this group. This group consists of 16 members. Now Ishwar and his 15 group members have planned to install a small processing center for making threads to sell, so they need to buy a cotton carding machine that combs, brushes and separates the cotton fiber for which the group is seeking this loan.
