Yele Group's story
YELE is a group in the Benkadi association of Ouelessebougou. It consists of women who met through family and neighborhood links. They are on average 43 years old, married with three children. They carry out different activities, such as food sales in the case of Fanta, the first person seated from right to left in the photo. They live in large nuclear families in Ouelessebougou in the Kati province (Koulikoro region, Republic of Mali). They have been trading for many years and are very solicited in their food sale activities. In order to satisfy their clients' growing demand, the group members have decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso loan program. They are on their ninth group loan. Fanta, who is the group's president and well-known in Ouelessebougou, excels in food sales. She intends to use her loan to purchase a large quantity of rice and condiments. She gets her supplies from wholesalers in Ouelessebougou and sells her foodstuffs in Ouelessebougou, retail, for cash or credit, to a mixed clientele. She hopes to earn a monthly profit of 60,000FCFA, an amount which will allow to repay the loan and reinvest in her activity.
