Roger Segundo's story
Roger is 39 and works as a contractor of finish work on construction projects. He has done this work, which has been passed down generation to generation, for 20 years. His family has used plaster to make rough walls smooth and make ceilings and moldings from this mineral. It is an art he learned when he was just a boy and is very important to architects for their designs. In addition to this work, he and his wife sell food and household items to their neighbors in the area where they live in the Soledad municipality. They buy in the neighboring country of Venezuela and in Maicao, a municipality in the department of Guajira whose principal activity is the sale of electrical appliances, food and clothing. He is currently applying for a Kiva loan, his first financing from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo (Mario Santo Domingo Foundation), to invest in fans, pressure cookers and blenders, as well as a ladder and cordless drill. Roger thinks that this investment will increase his productivity and sales and with it he will earn more. Roger is the father of four minor children to whom he wants to offer a better quality of life. His family goal is to buy a house and in his business to keep working for better results and greater coverage.
