A loan helped to buy new potatoes and 30 live chickens.

Relampago Group's story

The state of Oaxaca is one of the entities with the presence of the World Vision humanitarian institution, which belongs to the World Vision network. This way, the families are benefited with joint projects while the children are part of the sponsorship programs. Relámpago is a group comprised of eleven inhabitants who intend to take advantage of the opportunities that their business activities offer them. The name refers to the rapid way they hope to achieve their goals. The members are: Elba, who sells desserts, frozen treats, and sweets; Maricruz sells food; Olga sells perfume, Virginia sells refreshments; Juan Daniel sells roast chicken; Agueda sells perfume, Liliana sells candy; Josefina sells pork; and Yareli sells meat enchiladas. Delfina and María manage a grocery store. Juan is better known as Juancho. He is married to Anayeli, and they have a little four year old son who is receiving World Vision sponsorship. They feel very fortunate about this. In order to complement his work cutting sugar cane, an activity he engages in on Mondays through Fridays, Juancho has undertaken selling charcoal roasted chicken on the week-ends. He places his rotisserie under plastic sheeting at a table with ingredients and indispensable utensils, and he has a cooler that keeps the product fresh after cooking it with his original flavoring. His wife helps him all of the time in such a way that the customers always go away happy with their purchase. With the intention of continuing to move up, Juan will use the loan to buy new potatoes and 30 live chickens. "The first week-end I sold 15 chickens, and I had orders for 20 for the following week-end,” Juancho says very happily. He has started off on the right foot, and he now plans to have a place to sell more roasted chickens. “With the support of my family and God’s grace, I will do it.” *The photograph was taken on the patio of Elba’s house. Juan is the only man in the group. The photograph was taken at night because, due to their business activities, the members were not able to get together earlier.
