San Francisco Group's story
Veronica is a 40-year-old woman, married and with three children aged 2, 13 and 15. Her business is selling catalogue cosmetics. She is a good mother, entrepreneurial, optimistic, patient, friendly, responsible and hardworking. She operates her business in the 'La Mutualista' district, a central location characterised by its 30,000 capacity event venue measuring 1,000 metres, where the carnival parades and other cultural activities take place. It has a warm, sub-tropical climate with daytime temperatures ranging from 21°C to 35°C. Veronica is of average height and medium build. She has dark skin, brown eyes and long black hair that she ties back. Her mother tongue, which she speaks with her family, is Guaraní, and she speaks Spanish outside the home and in her business. In the photo, she is the third from the left, wearing grey trousers and a top with a flower pattern. She shares her life with her husband, who works in transport, and her children. The older children are at school but the youngest hasn't yet reached school age. They live in rented accommodation, built with bricks and cement and with a corrugated iron roof. It has drinking water, electricity and sewerage. Driven by her desire for self-improvement, she leads a group of people who are in business, for example, as locksmiths, blanket weavers, cheese manufacturers, fish sellers, bakers, chicken vendors and noodle sellers, to request a loan and improve their businesses. Veronica works as a travelling salesperson, selling catalogue cosmetics. The day begins and she prepares for her daily visits, checks her diary and gets her bag ready. It is full of samples, magazines, free gifts, etc. - the material she needs to gain new customers and keep the ones she already has. She goes to a different place each day and the routes she takes are long in the heat. "The motivation that I get from my children gives me the strength to achieve my life goals and sales targets..." she says. The advantage of her business is that she can count on regular customers. The disadvantages are the large distances she has to cover and the lack of capital to buy merchandise. Her dream is to open a cosmetics distribution shop and she would like to expand her business by investing in wholesale cosmetics stock in order to attract new customers and increase her income for the good of her children. This is her second round of loans with the institution in the three years she has been involved in this business. This is why Veronica is requesting a loan to buy wholesale cosmetics in order to attract new customers, increase her income and pay the bills to support her three children.
