Pescadin Group's story
The group is made up of three tenacious women (Rebeca, Claudia Carolina, and Anely). They belong to the Miskito ethnicity. The live in Bilwi, a municipality of Puerto Cabezas. They organized themselves two years ago, with the purpose of accessing funding for their small shellfish sales businesses, improving their profits, improving their living conditions, being able to cover the basic necessities of their homes, and guaranteeing education for their children. Rebecca is the coordinator of the solidarity group. She is a warm-hearted young woman of 22 years, with the qualities of a leader. As a single woman, in order to support her mother with household expenses and with education for her four siblings, she has worked selling shellfish for 10 years as a street vendor in the market and bus stops of Bilwi. She is requesting funding to buy more products: fish, shrimp, conches, and snails, among other products. She dreams of attending university and being a successful businesswoman.
