Pastora's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to grow organic coffee.
Pastora has been working in agriculture, especially coffee growing, for 43 years. She is in the process of converting from the production of conventionally grown coffee to organically grown coffee because she is convinced that it is profitable and healthy for her and her family. To start this process, Pastora needs two million and eight hundred pesos (2,800,000), with which she will buy two calves that will serve her to produce the organic fertilizer she needs on her farm. She also wants to plant 300 more coffee trees and diversify her farming with products that will improve her family's diet. On a personal level, Pastora wishes to have decent housing and help her grandchildren with their education. The conversion to the production of organically grown coffee is a comprehensive process that, in the long-term, is independent, healthy, balanced, and environmentally friendly. This is a challenge for Colombia's farmers and Pastora has decided to not risk her health, her family's health or the consumers' health by continued use of chemicals. The Farmer's Federation of Cauca is convinced that supporting and strengthening these alternatives is worthwhile. A Kiva loan represents a sustainable future for her production, her land, and her family.
