Estrellas Del Carmen Group's story
Friendship Bridge provides loans and education (“Microcredit Plus”) to more than 22,000 women, offering them the tools and skills essential to work their way out of poverty. The first two things that the women do with their extra income is to buy more and better food for their family and send their children to school. More nutritious food helps today while education helps for generations to come. Eleven women formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Estrellas del Carmen” or “Stars of Carmen”. They have just finished a loan cycle, funded by KIVA investors last June. They successfully repaid the entire loan. Currently, there are seven women in the Trust Bank who are requesting a new loan that they hope will be funded by KIVA investors. The group is composed by 7 women, and one of them is Maria, a hard-working, 25-year-old teacher. She sells cosmetics and clothing from the United States. She requests a loan to buy more cosmetics and clothing, increase her earnings, and improve the quality of life for herself and her family. The ladies enjoy the educational components of their monthly meetings with a Friendship Bridge Loan Officer. They learn to raise their self esteem and empower themselves. Thank you, KIVA investors, for your generosity that is truly appreciated. KIVA investors and Friendship Bridge empowers more women to build a solid foundation for a path out of poverty benefitting the ladies, their families and their community.
