Djiguiya Group's story
Djènèba is the client who is holding onto the ram's horns [in the photo]. Djènèba is 37 years old and is a Malian ovine farmer who is married and the mother of four children, one of whom attends school (second cycle of basic education[, i.e. high school]). Djènèba daydreams of purchasing a motorbike for her children. She did not have the opportunity to attend school but did visit the village's literacy center for three years. Djènèba largely fends for herself in her business. She has turned to RMCR to purchase many rams. She makes her purchases (rams) at the weekly bazaar in her area. With her loan of 125,000 CFA francs, she will purchase three rams for 110,000 CFA francs, and the [remaining] 15,000 CFA francs will be used for livestock feed and veterinary care. Djènèba raises her rams, cares for them, and resells them at the same weekly local bazaar. Her profits range from 50,000 to 55,000 CFA francs per loan cycle. Djènèba has been raising ovines for more than 12 years. She doesn't ask for sympathy with the operation of her business, but some rams often die. NB: While the group loan is for 2,155,000 CFA francs, Djènèba's portion of the loan is only 125,000 CFA francs.
