Lydia's story

Ldyia is married with two children and one goes to school. She also takes care of additional family members. She resides in a rented house and the family has access to electricity but does not have access to piped water. Her monthly expenses include rent and school fees. Ldyia has a retail shop and has been in this business for six years. She works in her shop seven days out of every week and sells on a retail basis. Her major business challenges include seasonality, transportation and defaulters. Ldyia has applied for a loan of 1,600,000 Uganda shillings (UGX) from MCDT-SACCO to buy bags of sugar, cartons of salt, flour, boxes of soap, cooking oil, bags of beans, and rice. She is aspiring to buy a plot of land.
